REDESIGNING THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ANIMALS
About the concept:
As a kid, I was obsessed with Nat Geo’s Encyclopedia of Animals. The book has these illustrations of all the animals that were so expressive, detailed and beautiful. But while the artwork was exceptional, the book’s overall design felt dated and bit chaotic and lacked color and rhythm. I wanted to reimagine it in a way that celebrated the illustrations while giving the book the visual energy it deserved.
Execution:
I individually scanned all the illustrations from the book to add to the design along with scanned colored paper to contain a texture quality throughout. With that I created a new handwritten logo and expanded wordmark for the encyclopedia, followed by a complete redesign of the cover and interior layout. The new visual system uses bold color, clear hierarchy, and generous negative space to frame the illustrations rather than compete with them. To extend the concept beyond print, I developed OOH and social assets promoting the book’s refreshed identity—turning a nostalgic object into something vibrant, organized, and contemporary.
